Questa la testimonianza di Bill Carson :" Fu chiamato rosso Cimarron a causa di Leon MC Auliffe, un chitarrista che ebbe una collaborazione con Leo e che amava quella finitura. Il nome viene dalla sala da ballo Cimarron a Tulsa, Oklahoma. Leon possedeva quella sala da ballo, prese un po' della vernice dalle pareti e la inviò a Leo, dicendogli che voleva la Stratocaster in quella tinta."

A prime example of a relatively early Custom Color Strat is Bill Carson's '57 Cimarron Red Stratocaster. Carson was a man who had a hand in inventing and developing the Strat: he was Leo Fender's in-house musician, and played with famed swing band Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys.
