The controls for this pedal are: Feedback Rate, Envelope
Sensitivity, Envelope Modulation, and Modulation Rate.
Here's an Electro Harmonix pedal you don't see too often. It's essentially a
deluxe Phaser, with a well integrated Envelope Follower built in. Despite the
name PolyPhase, it's substantially different from the famous EH PolyFlange,
EchoFlange etc. pedals.First up: there's no Chorus effect here; and rather than
equipping the pedal with a delay function; for slap-back delay effects, there's
a Feedback Rate knob that works like the "regeneration" function on many
flangers.
This wrinkle keeps the phase effect whirling in a cycle; over and over, even
building into feedback if overdone. Though the Feedback Rate knob controls this
classic type type of function that's popular on Flangers, in this case, it's
controlling a Phaser. So... please note: there's no Flanging here.no Flanging at
all! EVER! Whew.
We've included a wide range of the effects this pedal does perform, in our sound
files. There's a neat, funky effect you can get, by working with the envelope
filter, and phaser, to focus on the midrange frequencies. Get your "chunka-chunka"
going on your right hand rhythm, and get a whiff of that urban "Talk Box" tone,
without having to stick a "tube" in your mouth.
There's also a broad spectrum of phase effects you can mix with envelope
filtering. or not. The PolyPhase has a cascading effect that can be brought out
in an unusual pattern. In this mode the frequency range of the effect drops as
the volume trails off. What do you think of "a gentle sonic waterfall"? How does
"Phase Wonderland" grab you? Hey, there are no wrong answers! This is one of
those pedals that's a little different, and worthy of consideration. There are
some players who will hear this effect and say: "YES, at last, that's IT! We
understand completely, we've been there. Enjoy!
